In October 2016, many games were allegedly hacked by a group calling themselves "The Bureau". The group claimed to be responsible for hacks on other popular websites such as YouTube, PSN, Microsoft's Xbox Live and Blizzard Entertainment's Battle.net. The group also claimed to have over 2,000,000 players' personal information.

On December 20th, 2018, ROBLOX announced that they would be adding system tokens to enable their users to "preorder" an item before it is put on sale. This way users can give feedback and ROBLOX could make changes if necessary.[26]. In late 2011 when the game was seemingly more popular than ever, numerous reports were made about a player called "unikraken," as well as his group of friends he allowed in his places. This user was not banned from the site for a long time, which attracted hordes of people to his server. The servers would become infested with bots, cheats, hackers and other fraudulent activities that it slowed the game for everyone. These servers have since been taken down and ROBLOX has removed as much of these malicious players' information as they could.[27]

Roblox cannot afford to go down the path of Farmville. They need to remain an open source program for everyone, where people can come together as equals and play fun games without being forced to pay money to be able to continue having fun within their virtual world. People who think they can't afford to pay should just get used to not having an ROBLOX account because that's what's happening. People are being kicked off the server by player banning.

ROBLOX has also been criticised for its lack of badge incentives for participating in games, or even logging into the site at all. ROBLOX models these badges and credit prizes after the badges found in games like Journey, where a lot of doing nothing gives you a lot of money, which is possibly a reason some players don't log in. ROBLOX also has very few quests to complete that reward badgescredits.

ROBLOX has banned thousands of accounts, usually for viral videos made by "trolls" or people who want to annoy other usersadmins. Most of the bans these users receive are handed out by administrators but every once in a while a user will get banned for a "troll" video or similar reason. Some are also apparently banned because they made potentially offensive comments in the chatbox, not for any type of post or action that breaks the TOS.
